Two Corning Men Charged After Automatic Gunfire Call in Schuyler County

SHARE NOW

Two Corning men are facing weapons charges after Schuyler County deputies responded to reports of automatic gunfire last weekend in the Town of Orange.

According to the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the 1300 block of County Road 16 around 1:40 p.m. last Sunday.  When they arrived, investigators found several people actively shooting.

Authorities say the investigation determined the group was in possession of an Anderson Manufacturing AM-15 rifle that had been illegally converted to fire fully automatic. Deputies also recovered an unserialized .45 caliber “ghost gun” handgun and four large-capacity ammunition feeding devices.

Christopher Barrett, 32, of Corning, was arrested and charged with four counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. Officials say Barrett is a two-time convicted felon and currently has another felony weapon charge pending in Steuben County. He was arraigned in Schuyler County Centralized Arraignment Part Court and sent to the Schuyler County Jail without bail.

Another man, 32-year-old Bret Kimble of Corning, was also arrested and charged with one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. Kimble was arraigned in the same court and remanded to the Schuyler County Jail in lieu of bail.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
