Two Cayuga County Jail Inmates Charged After Fentanyl Found

SHARE NOW

Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck says two inmates have been charged after deputies discovered suspected contraband inside a housing block at the county jail on November 23.

Deputies searched after observing what appeared to be contraband in an inmate’s possession. They recovered two separate items believed to be drugs and turned them over to the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division for testing. According to Schenck, both items later tested positive for fentanyl.

On Monday, investigators charged the two inmates found with the drugs, 47-year-old George Burgman and 45-year-old Jayson Clark, with first-degree promoting prison contraband, a Class D felony. Both men were arraigned at the jail that evening and remain in the Sheriff’s Office’s custody.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
