A Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputy suffered minor injuries when responding to an emergency call and his patrol car was struck by another vehicle in the city of Ithaca.
A preliminary investigation determined the deputy’s car had its emergency lights and sirens operating when it was struck at the intersection of North Meadow and West State Streets at around 11 Thursday morning. The driver who struck the marked patrol car abandoned his vehicle and ran off on foot. He was later taken into custody and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to yield the right of way.
Ithaca Police did not release the names of either driver.
