Syracuse Man Charged Twice Within Hours For Driving Car With Stolen License Plates in Cayuga County

A Syracuse man is facing charges in Cayuga County following two traffic stops within hours of each other involving a car that did not have proper license plates.

According to Sheriff Brian Schenck, at around 4 a.m. on March 7th, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a blue Dodge Charger driven by Abdul Alhariri. During the roadside investigation, it was discovered the Charger was operated with switched license plates and Alhariri did not have a valid New York State license. He was issued tickets for driving an unregistered motor vehicle and aggravated unlicensed operation. The license plate was removed from the car and the vehicle was towed to a home in Wayne County per the owner’s request.

A little more than two hours later, sheriff’s deputies observed the same Dodge Charger being driven on East Main Street in the village of Cato with a New York Commercial License Plate affixed to its rear. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and discovered that the license plate had been stolen in Wayne County. The vehicle was again towed from the scene but this time to the impound yard.

In addition to being issued vehicle and traffic tickets, Alhariri was charged with criminal possession of stolen property.

Alhariri is set to appear in Cato Town Court on March 17th.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
