Authorities in Schuyler County have taken into custody the man who was involved in last weekend’s domestic situation that allegedly involved a handgun.
The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department charged Rexford Smith Wednesday on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, one felony and one misdemeanor, and a misdemeanor count of menacing.
At around 8 last Saturday morning police were called to a Mill Hill Road location in the town of Dix for the report of gunfire. A subsequent investigation from that scene led deputies to another location on State Route 414 in Catlin. A portion of 414 was shut down for more than eight hours while authorities attempted to locate Smith, but were unsuccessful at the time. It is not known where Smith was found when he was taken into custody Wednesday.
The Sheriff’s Office did report that the investigation into Saturday’s incident is ongoing.
