Officers in the City of Auburn Police Department responded to reports of a Walmart customer’s bag and wallet being stolen just before 3 p.m. on Monday.
The victim is reported to have been waiting in the vestibule for a ride after shopping in the store. A bag, which was previously in her shopping cart, was allegedly taken while the victim was looking at her phone for several minutes.
The bag’s contents included the victim’s birth certificate and wallet, which contained over $1,300 and several credit and debit cards.
After investigators reviewed video footage of the incident, 41-year-old Carrie Larrabee of Port Byron was identified as the suspect of the theft. Patrol officers reportedly observed Larrabee take the victim’s bag from her shopping cart and leave with it.
Larrabee was arrested and charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree before being transported to Cayuga County Jail, where she was held awaiting arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
