A Cayuga County man is facing charges after allegedly choking his girlfriend.
According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies met with the victim at the Moravia Police Department on Tuesday claiming her boyfriend, 51-year-old Clifford Carman Jr of Summerhill, put his hands on her neck to prevent her from breathing.
A warrant was issued for Carman’s arrest on the charge of Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation. Deputies contacted Carman on Thursday via phone and he turned himself in.
Additionally, Carman, a convicted felon, is also alleged to have been in possession of firearms when he left his residence on Tuesday, leading to a Criminal Possession of a Weapon charge.
Carman was arraigned and an order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
