A Steuben County woman has been charged with multiple felonies following an investigation by the Steuben County Department of Social Services and the Sheriff’s Office.
It is alleged that from March 1st to July 31st, Nicollette Bennett, of Corning, is accused of offering a false instrument for filing to the DSS and receiving benefits in the amount of $2,795 that she was not eligible to receive.
Bennett is charged with offering a false instrument for filing, welfare fraud, and grand larceny, all felonies. The 33-year-old was released on an appearance ticket for Bath Village Court.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit and the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
