Steuben County Woman Accused of Defrauding DSS

A Steuben County woman has been arrested following an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and Department of Social Services. 23-year-old Emily Martin, of Painted Post, is accused of knowingly and with intent to defraud and presented false documents to the DSS of $3,918.00 and $912.08.

Martin was charged with two felony counts of offering a false instrument for filing, falsifying business records, and grand larceny, along with misdemeanor charges of petit larceny, welfare fraud, and misuse of food stamps.

Martin was arraigned in CAP Court and released to appear in Bath Village Court at a later date.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit and the District Attorney’s Office.
