An incident at a hotel in Steuben County resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old Hornell man on burglary and assault charges.
Upon arrival at the Econo Lodge on Seneca Road North in Hornell, State Police said they encountered many people outside of the building. An investigation revealed that the victim had been allegedly assaulted by Zachary Smith, following a dispute regarding noise levels.
An investigation determined Smith forcibly entered the victim’s room, physically assaulted the victim, and caused damage to the door frame and threshold. The victim suffered multiple injuries.
Smith, who was also charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief, was being held at Steuben County Jail after his arraignment due to prior felony convictions.
Troopers say the victim was taken to St. James Hospital in Hornell for evaluation.
