On Saturday, the New York State Police arrested Cody Clemons of Woodhull following the investigation of a domestic disturbance in the village of Painted Post.
Troopers responded to a residence on East High Street at approximately 2:19 p.m. for a reported physical altercation. An investigation allegedly determined that Clemons engaged in a physical dispute with a woman, during which he applied pressure to the victim’s neck, restrained her, and damaged her cell phone. Authorities noted the incident occurred in violation of an active order of protection.
Clemons was located by troopers a short distance away on North Hamilton Street and taken into custody. During a search, police allegedly discovered approximately 8.2 grams of methamphetamine in his possession.
Clemons is charged with Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, a felony. He also faces misdemeanor charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Unlawful Imprisonment in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation.
Following processing at the Painted Post barracks, Clemons was transported to the Steuben County Jail for centralized arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
