The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Caton man following a violent incident at a retail establishment.
On Friday, deputies arrested 43-year-old Thomas Whitehead after receiving a report of a person inside the store requesting help. An investigation revealed that Whitehead allegedly held the victim against their will, forcibly stole property, and choked them during the altercation.
Whitehead is charged with third-degree robbery (a Class D felony), first-degree unlawful imprisonment (a Class E felony), criminal obstruction of breathing, and petit larceny. He was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
