A Steuben County man has been arrested following an investigation into the misuse of public assistance benefits.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, 41-year-old Brett Vanzile, of Erwin, was taken into custody on Thursday. Investigators allege that back on April 1, Vanzile unlawfully used another person’s benefit card issued by the Steuben County Department of Social Services.
Authorities say Vanzile used the card to obtain food stamp benefits he was not entitled to receive. He has been charged with Misuse of Food Stamps and Petit Larceny.
Vanzile was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Village of Bath Court at a later date.
he fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
