State Police Capture Parole Absconder in Steuben County

SHARE NOW

State Police say caught up with a parole absconder over the weekend in Steuben County. The arrest of Todd Speicher followed an anonymous tip that led law enforcement to East Second Street in the city of Corning.

Speicher was confirmed to have an active arrest warrant for violating his conditional release issued by the New York State Department of Community Corrections. In response, State Police Painted Post troopers, alongside officers from the Corning Police Department, located Speicher leaving a home and walking down the sidewalk. Upon spotting law enforcement, Speicher fled on foot, running north along Canisteo Street and then west onto East Second Street. Despite police orders to stop, Speicher continued his flight until nearby officers apprehended him.

Subsequent to arrest, law enforcement discovered that Speicher was in possession of a switchblade, approximately 1.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and several pipes containing burnt residue.

Speicher was charged with felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd and misdemeanor charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest, and Obstruction of Governmental Administration. He was taken to Steuben County Jail for CAP arraignment.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
