State Police Arrest Local Attorney on Grand Larceny Charge

SHARE NOW

A former Chief Attorney for the Schuyler and Chemung County Children’s Law Office is facing felony charges after State Police say she stole nearly $20,000 from the New York State court system. Jessica Saks was arrested by State Police on July 23 and charged with Grand Larceny and Offering a False Instrument for Filing.

According to investigators, Saks allegedly falsified receipts and financial records while working for the Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department. She allegedly submitted forged or inflated bills to obtain roughly $19,957 in reimbursements she was not entitled to, including funds meant for other employees and personal expenses unrelated to her role. The case was handled by the State Police Special Investigations Unit based in Rochester.

Saks, who ran unsuccessfully for Schuyler County Judge in 2019, was arraigned in Albany City Court and released pending future court appearances.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
