A Springport man has been arrested following an investigation into the sexual abuse of a child.
Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck reports that on Friday, deputies took Craig Gilmore into custody at his residence on charges of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree and Sex Abuse in the First Degree, both felonies.
The arrest followed a week-long investigation into allegations that the 63-year-old Gilmore subjected a child under the age of 11 to sexual contact.
Gilmore was processed and arraigned in CAP Court, where he was remanded to the Cayuga County Jail without bail.
Sheriff Schenck said the investigation remains ongoing, and limited information is being released at this time.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
