SHARE NOW

One of the drivers involved in a two-car crash at the intersection of Ridge and Geneva roads in the town of Sodus Sunday night has been charged.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, 19-year-old Orlanda Diaz-Garcia, of Sodus, was driving north on Geneva Road when she failed to stop at the stop sign at Ridge Road and went through the intersection. The driver of a westbound car on Ridge Road was unable to avoid a collision and struck Diaz-Garcia’s car. They suffered head, neck, and leg injuries as a result of the crash and were taken to Newark-Wayne Hospital.

A passenger in Diaz-Garcia’s car, 32-year-old Diego Angele-Castro, of Geneva, was also taken to the hospital for injuries to his right arm and shoulder.

During the investigation, it was determined Diaz-Garcia was intoxicated. She was brought to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for processing and failed field sobriety tests. A breath sample was secured and she was found to have a .16% BAC.

Diaz-Garcia was charged with DWI, driving while having a BAC of greater than .08%, unlicensed operator, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign.

Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Wallington Fire Department, Wayne County EMS Medic 84, WN3 and WN4

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
