Shortsville Couple Accused of SNAP Fraud

A Shortsville couple that lives at the same address have been arrested following a joint investigation by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s Department of Social Services.

60-year-old Christopher Alford is accused of receiving $2,955 in SNAP assistance benefits that he was not entitled to receive from December 1st, 2022 through October 31, 2023. Alford did not report changes in his household income or household composition. He is charged with grand larceny.

59-year-old Julie Whitehead is alleged to have offered four false instruments to the Department of Social Services starting in January of 2023 through September of 2023, where she failed to report her household income, $10,912, and composition truthfully. She is charged with four counts of offering a false instrument for filing and one count of welfare fraud. It is alleged Whitehead received $3782.50 in SNAP and Public Assistance that she was not entitled to receive.

Alford and Whitehead were arraigned in Ontario County CAP Court with Alford being held and Whitehead was released on an appearance ticket for Hopewell Town Court.
