One man will appear in court after an incident Friday in the Town of Sennett.
According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Rockingham Road just before 9:00a Friday morning for the report of a woman being attacked while walking her dog. An investigation alleges the victim was walking her dog when John Netti left a parked dump trailer on the side of the road, approached the victim, and began to strangle her as she tried to flee.
A neighbor saw the incident and began shouting at Netti while calling 911. Netti then fled into Highland Golf Course.
Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Auburn Police Department searched the course where they found Netti. He was subsequently arrested and charged with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing. A full order of protection was also issued against him.
Due to the state’s bail reform laws, Netti could not be held and was instead issued an appearance ticket for Sennett Town Court at a later date.
Authorities state that Netting was not associated with the victim in any way prior to the attack.
