A Geneva man was charged with driving while intoxicated following a rollover crash Thursday night in the Town of Varick, according to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrested 27-year-old Mitchell Wingert at about 9:45 p.m. Jan. 15 after responding to a reported personal injury accident on State Route 96.
According to the sheriff’s office, a third party reported that Wingert was traveling northbound on Route 96 when he failed to maintain his lane, drove off the roadway and rolled his vehicle into a field east of the road between Route 96 and Dilts Road.
Following an investigation, deputies arrested Wingert on a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated. Authorities said Wingert submitted to a breath test, which showed a blood alcohol content of 0.15%.
Wingert was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Varick Town Court on Feb. 24 to answer the charge.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
