A Rochester man is facing charges in Steuben County after a domestic dispute ended with a vehicle crashing into an Aldi’s grocery store.
State Police say 30-year-old Markiest Hartfield was involved in a physical domestic dispute early last Wednesday morning at a home on Seneca Road North in Hornellsville. While police were responding, they learned the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle.
Moments later, Troopers were called to the Aldi’s on County Route 66, where a Jeep had crashed through the exterior brick wall and landed on its side. The vehicle was unoccupied when officers arrived.

Hartfield was found nearby and taken into custody. He was evaluated by EMS and not injured.
Investigators say the earlier domestic incident involved two victims. Hartfield now faces multiple charges, including two counts of third-degree assault, criminal mischief, reckless driving, and aggravated unlicensed operation.
He was processed at the Hornell State Police barracks and taken to the Steuben County Jail for arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
