A Rochester man has been arrested following a months-long investigation into drug sales in the City of Canandaigua.
Police say 26-year-old Jonathan J.J. Matthews Jr. was taken into custody on Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals Service on multiple warrants from both the Canandaigua Police Department and the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Matthews is charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, along with reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing, reckless driving, and several traffic violations.
Investigators say Matthews sold narcotics in the city on several occasions. When officers tried to arrest him back on March 17, he allegedly struck an unmarked police car and drove onto a sidewalk to escape. The pursuit was called off due to his dangerous driving.
Matthews was processed and taken for arraignment. The investigation included assistance from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Geneva Police, and the U.S. Marshals Task Force.
