A former Cayuga County legislator previously removed from office due to a criminal conviction appeared in court on January 3 over allegations of unfinished landscaping work.
Jeffrey Blauvelt, owner of Trident Storm Recovery, is accused of accepting $13,515 in payments for projects in Auburn and Genoa that were never completed. He faces two counts of grand larceny and two counts of scheme to defraud.
The Citizen reports the case has been adjourned to February 20.
Blauvelt has a prior criminal record, including a 2003 conviction for filing a false instrument, which led to his removal from office, and a 2004 sentence of probation and jail time for a similar offense.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
