A Cayuga County Probation Officer is facing multiple felony charges after his Tuesday arrest.
State Police report arresting Nicholas Flanigan after an investigation revealed he allegedly abused his power and authority over those on probation for personal benefits, including monetary gain. The investigation also revealed that the 34-year-old Auburn man repeatedly had inappropriate conversations with probationers and failed to properly supervise those for whom he was responsible.
It is further alleged that, due to his power and influence, probationers believed they were hopeless to stop the abuses of power.
The investigation started after a concerned citizen contacted the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office about his actions.
Flannigan was charged with three felonies – Falsifying Business Records, Offering a False Instrument for Filing, and Official Misconduct.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims of Flannigan and anyone with information regarding him is asked to contact State Police at (315) 448-4540 or (315) 366-6000.
