A Port Byron man was sent to Cayuga County Jail on felony charges for allegedly strangling and beating a woman.

Deputies responded to the area of Dill and Redmond roads in the town of Ledyard shortly after three on Wednesday morning for unknown trouble. Upon arrival, deputies found the victim of a domestic incident who had been beaten and strangled. The victim was taken to Auburn Community Hospital by Southern Cayuga Ambulance for her injuries.

The suspect, Matthew Palmer, was located by deputies in his car and arrested. He was charged with criminal contempt and aggravated criminal contempt, both felonies, along with misdemeanor criminal obstruction of breathing, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Palmer is currently being held on $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
