The investigation into a larceny complaint by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the arrest of a Port Byron man.
On June 5th, deputies responded to a Route 31 business in the town of Mentz for a larceny complaint. Management of the business suspected that one of their employees had stolen tools. During the investigation, it was discovered that 32-year-old Jeffrey Shields had allegedly stolen chainsaws from the business.
Shields was taken into custody on a charge of petit larceny and he was released on an appearance ticket for Port Byron Village Court.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
