Police: Siblings Lied About Seneca Falls MVA

Seneca Falls Police Department News Release –

On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 6:26 pm, the Town of Seneca Falls Police Department arrested Amber L. Garneau, age 20, of Seneca Falls, New York, following an investigation into a one-car motor vehicle accident that occurred on February 24, 2024. Amber called and reported that she had crashed her vehicle when she swerved to avoid hitting a deer in the roadway. Following the investigation, police determined that Amber was not even on location when the accident occurred and responded to the scene at the request of her brother, Matthew Garneau, who was the driver of the car. Matthew then left the scene before the police arrived. Amber was charged with one count of Falsely reporting an incident in the third degree, a class A Misdemeanor. Amber was released on an appearance ticket and is to appear in the Seneca Falls Town Court on a later date.

On Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 3:45 am, the Town of Seneca Falls Police Department arrested Matthew R. Garneau, age 22, of Waterloo, New York, following an investigation into a one-car motor vehicle accident that had occurred on February 24, 2024. The accident was reported by Matthew’s sister, Amber Garneau, who told Police that she had swerved to avoid hitting a deer in the roadway, causing her to lose control and crash her car. Police determined that Matthew had crashed the car and had called Amber, who later came to the scene. Matthew asked Amber to report the accident as if she was driving. Matthew then left the scene before police arrived. Matthew was charged with one count of Conspiracy in the sixth degree, a class B Misdemeanor, Leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Failing to use designated lane, Crossing a hazard marking, and Failure to notify DMV of address change, all of which are traffic violation.  Matthew was transported to the Seneca County Correctional Facility to await arraignment at CAP Court.
