A Penn Yan man was arrested following a traffic stop in the Village of Penn Yan.
Penn Yan Police report that Russell Aliff of Penn Yan was arrested on Saturday after officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle he was operating. A DMV check showed the vehicle’s registration was suspended due to a lapse in insurance coverage. Officers initiated the stop and identified the driver as Aliff using his New York State identification card.
Further investigation revealed that Aliff’s New York State driving privileges had been revoked as a result of a prior DWI conviction. Police also determined that Aliff was subject to an ignition interlock device restriction and that the vehicle he was operating was not equipped with the required device.
Aliff was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree, Operating While Registration Revoked, Operating Without an Ignition Interlock Device, Unlicensed Operator, and Operating Without Insurance.
He was issued appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
