A Wayne County resident was arrested after a stolen vehicle was recovered in the Finger Lakes.
On Monday, New York State Police were alerted by Pennsylvania State Police that 24-year-old Dakota Root of Lyons was wanted on an active Pennsylvania warrant and was reportedly driving a stolen vehicle in Wayne County. The vehicle, a 2021 Nissan Rogue, had been reported stolen from Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
Investigators located Root and the vehicle at a residence on Woodside Drive in the village of Newark. Root admitted to operating the vehicle and was found in possession of the vehicle key. The stolen vehicle was recovered and secured.
Root was taken into custody without incident and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the third degree, a class D felony, and Fugitive from Justice based on the Pennsylvania warrant. She was processed at the Lyons State Police barracks and transported to the Wayne County Jail for CAP arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
