An Ithaca man is facing multiple charges after a traffic stop last week turned up drugs and a handgun.
According to Ithaca Police, an officer and state trooper were working together as part of a Gun Involved Violence Enforcement detail last Thursday when they saw a vehicle commit a traffic violation around 11:00p. The vehicle, driven by 29-year-old Edrick Acosta-Ramos, was stopped on West Clinton Street near South Plain Street.
After interviewing Acosta-Ramos, a K9 was deployed, and the vehicle was searched. The search turned up a handgun, a magazine containing over 20 bullets, cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.
Acosta-Ramos was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon and one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence, all felonies. He was also charged with a misdemeanor for Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia.
Acosta-Ramos was taken to the Tompkins County Jail on $100,000 bail or bond.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
