Almost seven months after receiving a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, State Police arrested a Steuben County man on felony possession of child abuse materials.
The investigation into James Hopkins of Hammondsport started in February after it was alleged he uploaded abuse material to a mobile messaging app. Troopers based out of Montour Falls say during the course of their investigation, they found the 44-year-old had allegedly used the app to view and exchange pictures of child sexual abuse materials.
Hopkins was charged with felony promoting and possession of a sexual performance by a child under the age of 17 and was being held at Schuyler County Jail for arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
