A request for police to check the well-being of an individual in Cayuga County resulted in a felony arrest.
Deputies were able to locate Jason Berry near Hall and Pump roads in Brutus. As deputies were negotiating with Berry, police say he responded by setting the car he had been driving on fire. He then surrendered without incident.
Berry was charged with felony arson and misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon after he was allegedly found to have a shotgun as a convicted felon.
Following arraignment, Berry was sent to Cayuga County Jail without bail.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
