Police say a Bath man allegedly injured a complete stranger inside a grocery store on Friday for wearing a hat supporting Donald Trump for President.
Robert Yott is accused of initiating the confrontation with the victim and became aggressive over the fact that the person was wearing a “Trump 2024” hat. The 60-year-old Yott is accused of punching the victim in the mouth and head several times, causing the victim’s teeth to be broken and his mouth bloody.
Yott was charged with felony assault and misdemeanor criminal mischief. He was being held at the Steuben County Jail pending arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
