On Thursday, Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reported the arrest of a Pennsylvania man following a traffic stop in the Town of Varick.
Deputies arrested Jason Suarez of Jeannette around 11:15 p.m. on March 6. The arrest followed a traffic stop on State Route 414. While speaking with Suarez in his vehicle, deputies allegedly observed a handgun in plain view.
Suarez was ordered to exit the vehicle and was detained for further investigation. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the seizure of the handgun. Authorities determined that Suarez allegedly knowingly and unlawfully possessed the firearm.
Suarez was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C felony. He was transported to the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center to await arraignment in the Seneca County Centralized Arraignment Part Court.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
