On Wednesday, Angela Bruno, 27, of Penn Yan, was arrested on felony charges following a traffic stop in the village.
Police stopped Bruno for allegedly speeding and failing to use a turn signal. During the investigation, officers observed that Bruno displayed several signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot watery eyes, and the odor of alcohol. After allegedly failing standardized field sobriety tests, she was taken into custody and transported to the Yates County Jail.
While at the jail, Bruno voluntarily submitted to a chemical breath test which reportedly revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.15%. Further investigation by police determined that Bruno had a prior conviction for Driving While Ability Impaired by drugs within the past 10 years, resulting in the current charges being elevated to felonies.
Bruno was officially charged with felony Driving While Intoxicated: Common Law, felony Driving While Intoxicated with a Blood Alcohol Content of .08% or Greater, Speed in Zone, and Insufficient Turn Signal. She was processed at the Penn Yan Police Department and is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date to answer the charges.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
