A Penn Yan woman is facing multiple charges after police say a domestic dispute turned physical earlier this month.
According to the Penn Yan Police Department, officers responded to a Liberty Street residence on November 3rd after receiving a third-party report of a physical domestic incident.
An investigation found that 23-year-old Kara Dougherty allegedly tried to prevent another person from leaving the home by blocking their way several times and withholding their car keys. Police say the situation escalated into a physical altercation as the two fought over the keys — all while two young children were present.
Dougherty was arrested the following day and charged with two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Unlawful Imprisonment in the Second Degree.
She was released and is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court on November 24 to answer the charges.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
