Penn Yan Man Leads Police on Pursuit Before Claiming Car Was Stolen

SHARE NOW

A Penn Yan man faces charges in connection with a pursuit he led local police on in the Yates County village.

On November 25th, John Cappelletti was spotted driving recklessly on Seneca Street by Penn Yan PD, who attempted a traffic stop. The officer said Cappelletti did not comply and led authorities on a short pursuit to his home on Lawrence Street where he parked the car and fled on foot. Officers identified the driver as Cappelletti, who police say then showed up the next day at their office and reported his car had been stolen.

The 28-year-old was charged with unlawful fleeing and reckless driving after the investigation determined the alleged theft had not occurred.

Cappelletti was released on traffic and appearance tickets to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
