A Penn Yan man has been arrested following a joint investigation by the Yates County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
Sheriff’s officials say 44-year-old Kristopher Mahan was taken into custody on Tuesday after authorities executed a search warrant at his residence. Mahan is charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and failure to safely store rifles, shotguns, and firearms.
The Sheriff’s Office says the search warrant was part of a joint investigation between the two agencies.
Mahan was transported to the Yates County Jail for processing and was later released. He is scheduled to appear at a later date in Jerusalem Town Court to answer the charges.
No additional details were released.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
