A property damage accident in the village of Penn Yan last Friday resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old Penn Yan man.
While investigating the accident on Wagener Street, police say they observed Martin Murphy display several signs of intoxication, including glossy eyes and the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Murphy refused to perform any standardized field sobriety tests when requested. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Yates County Public Safety Building where he refused to submit to a chemical breath test.
Murphy was transported back to the Penn Yan Police Department where he was charged and processed for DWI common law (Refusal) and moving from lane unsafely.
Murphy was then transported back to the Yates County Jail to await centralized arraignment.
