A Penn Yan man is facing a number of charges including illegal weapons and drug possession following in the city of Geneva.
After stopping Jeffrey Kearns for allegedly not stopping at a solid red light, officers reported that they determined he was operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and possessing an open container of alcohol in the car. Officers later discovered that Kearns allegedly had a controlled substance in his possession and illegally possessed a handgun inside the car.
Kearns was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and of a weapon, along with drunken driving.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
