A woman was stuck and killed by a car Friday afternoon in the city of Auburn.
According to Auburn Police, the woman was walking west across North Street at the intersection with Lansing Street when she was struck by a mid-sized four-door sedan that was traveling south at a high rate of speed and crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic.
The driver of the car, Christopher Dewitt, also ran a stop light prior to striking the victim.
Dewitt was charged with vehicular manslaughter, Driving While Intoxicated – drugs. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
Assisting the Auburn Police Department at the scene were members from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
