Two alleged poachers have been ticketed for illegally shooting geese in Seneca County.

According to the Department of Environmental Conservation, two individuals were seen by a forest ranger on February 29 shooting snow geese from the side of Ninefoot Road in Junius. The shooter then allegedly picked up one of the geese, leaving the others to die.

Using the vehicle’s license plate and a description of the shooter, DEC officers responded to an Aurora address where one of the suspects admitted to shooting the geese with a semi-automatic shotgun with a tube extension holding more than six shells.

The pair was issued ten tickets, including wanton waste, possessing a loaded gun in a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm across a public highway, illegally taking wildlife from a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm within 500 ft of a dwelling, failure to carry a migratory bird stamp, and prohibited use of a semi-automatic shotgun holding more than six rounds.

All tickets are returnable to Junius Town Court.
