A 45-year-old Owasco man faces multiple charges following a domestic incident investigation by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Brian Schenck said deputies arrested David Centro on June 1 and charged him with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, third-degree menacing, and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at about 11:13 p.m. May 31 to investigate a missing person complaint after Centro reported that a woman and child inside his residence were missing.

Authorities said that shortly after Centro’s 911 call, the woman contacted 911 and reported that she and the child were at a New York State Police barracks to report a domestic incident involving Centro.

Investigators determined that Centro became angry during an argument and locked the woman outside the residence. After she was allowed back inside, she went to a child’s bedroom to retrieve the child so they could leave, deputies said.

The Sheriff’s Office alleges that Centro then threatened the woman and blocked her movements inside the residence while the child was present. The woman was eventually able to leave, but investigators said Centro took her cellphone before she escaped.

When deputies interviewed Centro, they located the woman’s cellphone inside his vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Centro was transported to the Cayuga County Public Safety Building for processing before being taken to the Cayuga County Jail for arraignment.

He was arraigned and bail was set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond. Centro was scheduled to appear in Owasco Town Court on June 8.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
