A 51-year-old Ovid man has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon following a search warrant investigation in Seneca County.
Seneca County Sheriff Timothy Thompson says investigators arrested Stewart Woodard, Sr., on Saturday on a charge of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. The charge stems from the execution of a search warrant on December 12. Investigators allege that Woodard had multiple firearms at the time of the search.
Authorities say Woodard is a convicted felon and is legally prohibited from possessing firearms under New York State law.
Woodard was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Ovid Town Court on February 24 to answer the charge.
As with all criminal cases, Woodard is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
