Ontario Woman Arrested For Fraudulent Store Return Involving Cat Litter

On Thursday, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Town of Ontario woman following a larceny investigation.

It is alleged that on March 19, Jenna Vandemortel, 34, entered the Dollar General on Route 104 in the Town of Ontario carrying an empty box of “Tidy Cats” cat litter. She then allegedly swapped the empty box for a full container from the store shelf.

Vandemortel then reportedly proceeded to the register, where she completed a return transaction for the litter and exited the store with a cash refund totaling $12.25.

Vandemortel was charged with Petit Larceny and was released on an appearance ticket. She is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ontario Court at a later date to answer the charge.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
