A Vernon Corners woman is facing multiple felony charges following a reported domestic violence incident in the Town of Ira.

On Monday, Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck said deputies arrested 34-year-old Marissa Clinch on December 21 on charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree, Assault in the second degree, and Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree.

Deputies were originally called to a residence in the Town of Ira at approximately 11 a.m. for a reported domestic violence incident involving injuries. When deputies arrived, they found a male victim with a cut to the back of his head. Emergency medical crews treated the victim at the scene and transported him to a local hospital.

Investigators say a physical altercation had taken place and that Clinch allegedly struck the victim in the back of the head with a hammer while he was on the ground. Authorities also say Clinch damaged the victim’s motorcycle with the hammer.

Clinch reportedly fled the scene before deputies arrived and was later located in Oneida County by New York State Police. She was taken into custody, brought back to Cayuga County for processing, and then turned over for centralized arraignment.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
