A routine noise complaint in Auburn turned into a weapons investigation Saturday morning, according to city police.
Officers responded to the 300 block of Melone Village Apartments just before 10 a.m. after both neighbors called 911 — one reporting loud music, the other claiming a man had pointed a machine gun at him.
Police arrived, established a perimeter, and spoke with both residents. Investigators determined the reported “machine gun” was actually a legally owned 12-gauge shotgun, which was confiscated.
Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Miana Addison. According to officers, Addison said she took the shotgun to her neighbor’s door because she was upset about the loud music.
The neighbor told police the adjoining residents had been pounding on the walls, causing items to fall in his apartment. He said that when he went to the door after hearing yelling, he saw Addison allegedly brandishing the shotgun and yelling at him, putting him in fear for his safety.
Addison was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
