A Niles man is facing multiple charges, including a felony, following a traffic stop in the Town of Moravia.
Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck reports that deputies arrested 26-year-old Gage Benson on March 15. He is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content over .08 percent, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the First Degree, along with additional vehicle and traffic violations.
According to authorities, a deputy initiated a traffic stop around 6:33 p.m. on Route 38 after observing a vehicle with an expired inspection and no front license plate. Following an investigation, Benson, who was the sole occupant, was taken into custody.
Deputies say Benson later provided a breath sample of .09 percent BAC at the Sheriff’s Office. Investigators also determined he was operating the vehicle with a conditional license due to a pending DWI charge, leading to the felony aggravated unlicensed operation charge.
Benson was arraigned at the centralized arraignment and released. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Moravia Court on March 19 at 5:30 p.m.
The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
