A 22-year-old Newfield man was arrested this week in connection with a reported domestic incident in the Town of Genoa earlier this month.
According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, Terry Bruce was charged with criminal trespass in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child, both class A misdemeanors, after turning himself in at police headquarters.
Deputies say the charges stem from an incident reported around 2:40 a.m. on January 3, when they were called to a residence in the Town of Genoa for a domestic situation. The victim told deputies that Bruce attempted to enter her bedroom through a window while a child under the age of 17 was present in the home. Bruce had left the area before deputies arrived. Following an investigation, deputies applied for and obtained an arrest warrant on the two charges.
Bruce was taken to centralized arraignment, where a judge issued an order of protection and set bail at $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond. Bruce was remanded to the Cayuga County Jail pending bail.
The case remains pending in court.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
