SHARE NOW

A car reportedly stolen out of Monroe County was found on East Union Street in the village of Newark early Sunday morning.

After spotting the vehicle, Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies observed 31-year-old Robert Wells, of Newark, driving the car. Wells is accused of showing signs of impairment while speaking with deputies, who spotted open containers of alcohol in the car, which also had no interlock ignition device installed.

After being arrested, Wells was brought to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for processing and refused to submit to standardized field sobriety tests. He did submit to a chemical breath test, which according to police yielded a .06% BAC. Due to a previous DWI conviction in 2021 and having a revoked license, Wells was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Wells was also charged with criminal possession of stolen property, driving while ability impaired by alcohol, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage while driving.

Wells was transported to the Wayne County Jail to be arraigned on the charges before being turned over to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to be arraigned on their charges.
